Don’t y’all hate when you relive an embarrassing moment? This happened to me this morning while I was driving to work. For some reason, I was reminded of a memory from 2011. I was a sophomore in high school, and I was enrolled in a French course for beginners. In this class, we picked out a name of our choice from a list, and we were called that for the rest of the year. I had chosen Zazie, and I remember being mad that someone had already taken the name Gigi.
At some random point in the year, at least to me, I got to class a few minutes early. I asked to use the bathroom, and I was given the OK. A moment later, I heard someone enter the bathroom and say, “Elizabeth” with the French pronunciation. I had recognized this voice as my teachers. I was legit peeing when she said this, and I didn’t say anything back. I remember thinking, OMG! That was so way weird! Did she follow me into the bathroom? Looking back, I would’ve responded to her, but at the time, I was weirded out.
The bell had rung just a few seconds before I returned to class. When I walked in, the whole class was silent. The teacher stood up from her desk and asked to speak to me outside in the hallway. I giggled at this because she had taken students to the hallway before to reward them for their hard work. We stepped out to the hall, and she said, “You’ve lied to me. I know you weren’t in the bathroom.” I remember being quite shocked. When I was younger, I was quieter, and I was timid. I remember crunching up and saying, “Well, I did hear something, but I wasn’t sure, and I thought it was odd.” She just looked at me, shook her head, and said, “No, you didn’t. You need to tell your friends what to do.” She then turned and walked back into the classroom, which she had left the door open to. I walked in bright red since I knew everyone had heard what happened. The rest of class carried on as usual.
Every time I think back to this moment, I cringe. I’m not sure why I randomly remembered it this morning, but looking back, it definitely shifted the way I communicated with others. After this happened, I made a promise to myself to correct others when they are wrong. When embarrassing stories from high school come up, I always tell this one! 😆😆 I mean, at this point, it’s a little funny that she followed me into the bathroom, said my name, and I didn’t respond. Like, what in the world?

A Taste of Stockholm (or Smaka på Stockholm) is a vast food and beverage festival at Kungsträdgården. I highly recommend going if you’re looking for Swedish and all kinds of other street foods. Getting to the festival is a breeze using public transportation. I found the tunnels on the way there to be some of…
